Starting from the Beginning of Basketball....

1891

The first game of basketball was played at what is now Springfield College. The game was invented by a Canadian, Dr. James Naismith. The idea of this unique,fun game quickly attracted players & fans. James died at the age of 78, on November 29, 1936.

This picture was from 1899 University of Kansas basketball team, with James Naismith at the back, right. Naismith himself coached at the University of Kansas for 6 yrs. before letting reowned coach, Forrest "Phog" Allen coach. A student of Naismith`s at Kansas, Adolph Rupp, enjoyed

great success as a coach at University of Kentucky.
