- Organized groups of Metis to observe and confront the land surveyors who were trying to take away their land- Formed the Metis National Commitee to fight for concerns about their land

He started a provisional government to maintain order and negotiate about the area around the Red River Settlement joining confederation

Tried to get the government's attention when they were being unfair towards the Metis
