Louis De Broglie


Theory of Electron WavesIn 1924, Louis developed a theory stating that matter on the atomic scale might have the properties of a wave. Einstein suggested that light of short wavelengths under certain conditions be observed to behave as if it were composed of particles. Experiments indicated that the electron must move around a nucleus. A wave confined within boundaries imposed by the nuclear charge would be restricted in shape.

Louis de Broglie, also known as Louis-Victor-Pierre-Raymond 7e duc de Broglie, was born on August 15, 1892 in Dieppe, France. Louis was the second son of a member of the French nobility full of high-ranking soliders, policiticians, and diplomats. Louis broke his family tradition when he became a scientist. He died on March 19, 1987 in Paris, France.

Quantum Theory is a theory "created" by Max Planck, Father of Quantum Theory. The theory states that light is a wave-particle duality, meaning light and matter consists of particles which have wavelike properties. Light is composed of particles called photons and matter is composed of particles called electrons, protons, and neutrons.
