-born January 4,1809-born in Coupvray, France-died on January 6,1852 due to tuberculosis

- wasn't born blind; became blind at 3 years because of awl - played cello & organ for churches around Paris- loved reading- loved science in school- got scholarship to Royal Institution of Blind Youth at 10 years old- became teacher there

The inventor of Braille in its universal system designed to here when the Institute for the Blind Youth was there from 1816 to 1843

BRAILLE- made from awl- has symbols for most or all of normal writing- named after inventor- uused around the world- used more than when Louis was around
