Louie's Journey Page 1-275

The Camps

Phil and Louie are taken into a secret camp not known to the outside world. During the time, Louie had just found a companion who was suppose to be an enemy. His name was Kawamura and he was one of the guards in the prison that both Luoie and Phil were assigned to. Time after time, Kawamura had shown his sympathy for the olympic runner by protecting him from constant abuse from the other guards in the prison. The Japanese had injected unknown chemicals into the bodys of Phil, Louie, and other prisoners for the use of military warfare. Both survived and were assigned to a new prison called Execution Island.

Louie Zamperini, a US Olympic runner has just been enlisted to the United States Army Air Force as a Luitenant in 1941. Being deployed to the Pacfic Island, he meets his crew members and was assigned to a B-24. Even though there was reluctant hesitations of the B-24 bomber's capabilities, it proved it's strength to the crew during difficult life or death scenerios. The bulky "boxcar" bomber even stayed gliding after being damaged badly. Hence, the crew decided to call the B-24, "Superman". Regardless of being deployed to the Air Force, Zamperini continued joking around with his crew mates.

After such damage done to the B-24 "Superhuman", Louie and the crew were assigned to a search mission on the plane called the "Daisy Mae". The plane was so horrible that it couldn't even catch up with the military boat, the "Green Hornet". Eventually, the plane had trouble with burning fuel equally which caused it to crash into the Pacific. Out of all the crew, only Louie, Phil, and Mac are the only survivors. To make matters worse, they are stranded with limited water, Mac ate all the food they needed to survive, and a military plane that found the survivors were the Japanese. Surviving the attack and nearly getting eaten by sharks, Mac sadly dies before rescue. Louie and Phil were captured by the Japanese.

In Execution Island, the food porpotion and living environments were much harsher. Louie met again with his old time friend Jimmie Sasaki (the Japanese supporter he met in college). Phil and Louie were seperated from eachother in far prison rooms. Louie is constantly being harrassed to race japanese and is starving. With a few prisoners he befriended, they planned to escape but after a recent escape had decided postone.
