Lordosis

Also known as, Swayback or Saddle back.

- The lumbar region (lower back), has an excessive curvature.

-Achondroplasia-Spondylolisthesis-Osteoporosis-Obesity-Kyphoysis-Discitis

-Physical examination- The doctor asks the patient to bend foward and to the side to see whether the curve is flexible or fixed. They see if the spine is aligned correctly.

-Benign juvenile lordosis-Tight lower back muscles-Excessive visceral fat-Pregnancy-Rickets-Poor posture

-Other tests can be ordered, like a neurological assesment or an x-ray.

Pathophysiology

-At a lateral view, the lower back looks like a C-shape

Signs and Symptoms

-A large gap between the lower back and the floor when lying on one’s back

-Discomfort and Pain in the lower back

-Inward curve can make the buttocks seem more prominent.

Treatment

-Muscle spasms

-Physical therapy -Back brace-Medication-Yoga-Weight loss-Surgery

Prevention

-Stretch upper body

-Stretch Hip Flexors

-Reduce belly Fat

-Sit in correct posture

-Squat

Types of Curves

Lordosis- Curve in the lower back region.Kyphotic- outward curve of the thoracic spine.Scoliotic- sideways curving.

-Untreated lordosis gives you an increased risk of problems with the spine, hip girdle, legs, and internal organs.
