Summary:Miles leaves home in his junior year for Culver Creek Preparatory High School in Alabama in hopes of finding his 'great perhaps'. When MIles arrives at school, he makes friends with Chip, Takumi, and Alaska and quickly falls for Alaska. Alaska is a girl who believes she has too many problems to be valuable, so her choices are often harmful to her health and relationships. As Miles builds a stronger bond with Alaska, he begins to believe that he can have a positive effect in her life. Alternatively, Alaska and Chip's choices also have a strong effect on Mile's decisions and he begins to make some unhealthy chioces. Just as Miles and Alska reach a pinnacle in their friendship, devastation breaks the school and friend group into pieces and everyone must decide what pieces they want to pick up in order to move on.
