The Lone Ranger originally debuted on the radio in 1933. It was a hit amongst listeners. It was meant to be like an americanized western version of Zoro but the creators didn't think that it would take off the wa it did. In 1939 more than 20 million people were listening in 3 times a week! The show soon had toys and comic books in it's name. In 1951 ABC picked up the Lone Ranger for television. The show ran from '51 through '57. It's comic book counterpart still continued through the 1970s.
