Linear Functions

Make sure the equation is in slope-intercept form

Once in slope-intercept form, the letter "m" denotes the slope. Slope is defined as rise over run; the change in y over the change in x.

Start at the y-intercept and plot points using slope, or rise over run.Draw a line through the dots to create a graph of the function or equation.Whereas positive-value slopes travel upward, negative-value slopes travel downward.

"b" is the y-intercept. The y-intercept is the point where the line crosses the y-axis.

The numerator is how far the line travels vertically. The denominator is how far the line travels horizontally.
