Lincoln's assassanation

EARLY LIFEAbraham Lincoln was born in Harden County, Kentucky. in 1830, Abraham Lincoln and his family moved to Macon County, Illinois. Lincoln was later voted chief by a group of Native Americans to help them fight in the Black Hawk War. After the war, Lincoln had decided to become a lawyer and decided to join the Illinois Legislature as a member of the Whig Party. Lincoln then served one term as a member of the house of representatives, which caused him to run for president.


THE PRESIDENTLincoln was elected to office in March 1860. In 1857, the Supreme Court issued its decision Scott v. Sanford, declaring African Americans were not citizens and that they had no inherent rights.This was just the beginning of Lincoln's fight to abolish slavery. Due to Lincoln's liberal ideas, the south rebelled against the north, due to the south wanting to keep their slaves. The north won the civil war in the spring of 1865, which led to the full abolishment of slavery.

THE ASSASSINATION Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, by a well known actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. Lincoln was taken from the theater to the Petersen House across the street and laid in a coma for nine hours before dying the next morning. His body laied at the Capitol before a funeral train took him back to his resting place in Springfield, Illinois.
