An interview with Lorraine Hansberry herself!!

Lorraine Hansberry

Created by- Amanda Palermo, Elizabeth chan, and Alexis Manna

Lorraine Hansberry was born on May 19, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, and was the youngest of 4 children. Although she was born in a time of poverty her family remained economically solvent, they were of the upper middle class, usually considered "rich".

Although the Younger family went through poverty they ended up moving into a white neighborhood. Despite the stereotypes and racism.

In A Raisin in the Sun, the Younger family experiences poverty. An example of this is when Travis asks his mother for a quarter. Her response was that they don't have any money to spare. In any other situation a quarter would be nothing to a family that has money. This displays that the Younger family went through poverty.

One example on the influence that poverty had on things was the influence it had on the writers of Harlem Rennassiance. As we learned on our fireld trip to Harlem it was the first period in the history of the U.S. in which a group of blacks, poets, authors, and essayists expressed themselves.
