FUN FACT!After the summer months are over, the monarch butterfly will migrate south, just like some birds do! This is to escape the cold, and allows them to survive until spring arrives.

DevelopmentThe life cycle of the butterfly first starts out as a tiny egg. Then, after 3-8 days, the egg hatches into a caterpillar, which is the larvae phase. The caterpillar will then eat and eat its favorite food, till it is finally big enough and strong enough to create its own chrysalis. This is the pupae phase. The caterpillar will stay in it's chrysalis for 8-15 days, till it is finally ready to break out. Once it hatches out of its chrysalis, it is in the final phase, the adult phase.

The Monarch's favorite food is milkweed!
