Lewis Wickes Hine was born on September 26, 1874 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Lewis Hine was an American sociologist and photographer, as he used his camera to capture images that helped change child labor laws in the United States. In 1906 he became the staff photographer for the Russell Stage Foundation where he took photos of the people of Pittsburg. But in 1908 Hine became the photographer for the National Child Labor Committee where he documented child labor with his camera mainly for Carolina Piedmont. During WWI and the Great Depression he worked for the Red Cross to record human contribution to America. At the age of 66 Lewis Hine’s died at Dobbs Ferry Hospital on November 3, 1940.
