Levi Strauss

Levi Strauss was born in Germany on February 26, 1829. He died September 26, 1902 in San Fransisco, California. He began making his blue jeans in the 1870s out west instead of working for his brothers in New York City selling dry goods. In 1853, he opened his own dry goods business and then he eventually sold his jeans in his store. He sold dry goods and blue jeans out west without his brothers. Levi's motive to go out west was when people went to California for the gold rush. Levi found that the gold miners would need strong clothes to hold up against all the rocks so he made blue jeans in the 1870s. He later received the patent for blue jeans with another man named Jacob Davis. Davis and Strauss would later leave the dry goods store and open a factory for Strauss's jeans to be made.
