Leukemia

In Leukemia the cell undergoes a change and becomes a type of leukemia cell. Some of the leukemia cells may grow and survive better than normal cells which causes the leukemia cells to suppress the development of normal cells. The rate at which leukemia progresses and how the cells replace the normal blood cells are different for each type of leukemia.

Since there are multiple types of leukemia the symptoms will vary. Common leukemia symptoms are:

Leukemia is a type of cancer in the blood cells. It starts in the bone marrow where the soft tissue is inside most bones.Leukemia is not a single disease, which means that the term leukemia refers to a number of related cancers that start in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow

Statistics

There are both acute and chronic forms of leukemia, and each have many subtypes that each respond differently to treatment. Leukemia treatment plans are personalized and geared toward every individual patient diagnosed with this disease. In general, the five major treatment approaches are: chemotherapy to kill leukemia cells using strong anti-cancer drugs, interferon therapy to slow the reproduction of leukemia cells and promote the immune system's anti-leukemia activity, radiation therapy to kill cancer cells by exposure to high-energy radiation stem, cell transplantation to enable treatment with high doses of chemotherapy and radiation therapy and surgery to remove an enlarged spleen or to install a large plastic tube to give medications and withdraw blood samples.
