She graduated from University of Nebraska with her Bachelor of Arts degree, along with her teaching certificate. She developed a great reputation as a writer. She also met her husband Henry.

Leta started her first study with gifted children. She coined the word gifted to mean people with high aptitude. Thanks to this research, she developed the first curriculum for the gifted.
She started graduate school at Columbia University after having moved to New York with Henry. She received her Master's degree in Education in 1913 and became New York City's first civil psychologist.

She was born on May 25th in Nebraska. Her mother died during child birth of her third sister. She was raised by her maternal grandparents until she was twelve years old.

Leta died of abdominal cancer at the age of 58 in Nebraska. Her husband continued her work and published her last book that he helped complete.
