Balanced Literacy As we end our unit of non-fiction unit, expository text, we make our way into biographies. Balanced Literacy incorporates reading, writing, and word work. To increase your child’s level of comprehension, ask questions often as you read. Sample reading comprehension questions can be found at: http://www.englishforeveryone.org/Topics/Reading-Comprehension.htm Science In Science, we will be uncovering the changing world and lands of today. Through quick labs, cooperative learning groups, and digital media, your child will develop an understanding of why and how the oceans, seas, and various landforms change over time. Social Studies In Social Studies we will continue to learn about People and Communities over time. Students will place their focus on how our communities have changed over time. Some of the focus will also take a look at how the actions of others have shaped our society today. Including, but not limited to Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing As we continue to learn how to use the writing process, we begin our journey as researchers. We will learn to compile notes and data on a specific topic and turn our findings into a published book. Information on how to purchase our class book is coming soonMathematics This month we will wrap up Unit 5 in Investigations, which covers having students understand equal groups, finding patterns on the 100 chart to determine factors up to 50. They will now transition to using this knowledge and applying it to our CMS Unit 6: Measurement and Data. In this unit your child will begin to explore standard metric units of measurement. !
