What is the history of the parachute?Leonardo's parachute had a triangle canopy instead of the modern round one. When he first thought of it he made a sketch of it. His parachute has sealed linen cloth which is held open by a pyramid of wooden poles that are about 7 meters long. A sky diver Adrian Nicholas tested Leonardo's parachute(video). He said that it was a smooter ride than the modern one.

Why was it created?Leonardo was an inventor who liked thinking up crazy ideas. He wanted to fly so he invented the parachute. Nobody knows if he actually used it but, in 2000 Adrian Nicholas used it. He jumped out of a hot air balloon at 3000 m.Is there a modern day version of it?The modern day version of it has a round top and is a lot lighter than the older version. The newer ones also have a safety harness for safer flying.
