Laurie has slept with a cheetah. Its name was Khayam.

Laurie has worked with cheetahs since 1974! That's 39 years!

From 1974 to 1988, she helped start the U.S. International Captive Program, the most successful cheetah breeding program in North America.

Accomplishments- In 2008 she received the Zoological Society of San Diego's Lifetime Achievement Award.- In 1990 she started the Cheetah Conservation Fund, or CCF, to help save cheetahs.- In the early 1980's, she helped identify the cheetah's lack of genetic variation.

Laurie has a 15-year-old cheetah named Chewbaaka. She raised him from a three-week-old cub.
