Landforms

Meet Mr. DeMaio. He's here to teach us about different landforms!

Landforms

-Plains, Plateaus and Mountains are all landforms. -There are eight major landform areas in the U.S.-There are two different types of plains and four different types of mountains.

Folded Mountains are folded rock layers.Unwarped Mountains are when blocks of Earth's crust are pushed up by forces inside Earth.Fault-block Mountains are huge tilted blocks of rock that are separated from surrounding rock by faults.Volcanic Mountains are formed by molten material reaching the surface through a weak area of the crust.

Coastal Plains, also called low lands. These are lower in elevation than the land around it.Interior Plains make up a lot of the central portion of the U.S.

Plains-Large, flat areas, often found in the interior regions of continents.Plateaus-flat, raised areas of land made up of nearly horizontal rocks that have been uplifted by forces within Earth.

Part of Rocky Mountains in Western Wyoming.
