La Vita `E Bella!

"This is my story. This is the sacrifice my father made. This was his gift to me."-Giosue` .....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

"A true work of art requires symbolization, but what if there is no conceivable symbol greater than reality?"-Holocaust scholar, Saul Friedlander

L.A. area Jewish leaders, scholars, and Holocaust survivors have warmly applauded the film!

The Italian film "Life Is Beautiful," is a tragicomic fable set partly in a concentration camp, has revived the decades-old debate on the latitude allowed the creative artist in depicting the ultimate horror of the Holocaust.

Some people applaud the film La Vita e Bella , while others have a different perspective...

"This film was cheesy, brainless, and horrible; the only point of this movie is to make people cry."(Review recorded in 2000)

Dr. Samuel Goetz, a concentration camp inmate at age 14 says, "When you see the expressions of the SS men like animals ready to pounce on their prey, that was very reminiscent of my own experience."

"A daring, highly original work."(Review recorded in January 2000)

"It embraces the bravery of its victims, and educates its audience through truly accessible characters."(Review recorded in January 2000)

Many people believed the film was mocking The Holocaust.

"This film is not about Nazis and Fascists, but about the human spirit."

"La Vita e Bella" was never offensive to me; it is a tribute to hope and love."

"It was a watered down version of the Holocaust." (Eric Scharf)

The film offended right wing Italians and left wing critics for its controversial way of portraying the Holocaust as a humor by its comedy base and fable like narrative.

Perhaps in another fifty years, when all the survivors and anyone who knew them are gone, it will no longer be distasteful to make a vaudeville out of Auschwitz.(Eric Scharf)

The film fuses comedy and humor with the Holocaust to create a dynamic ground breaking film. This film spoofs fascism and tells a beautiful story.
