The Korean Memorial

~The memorial is located near the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall, located in Washington D.C. ~The memorial honors the 5.8 million American soldiers who fought during the Korean War. ~The Korean war lasted about three years! ~8,200 soldiers are listed as missing in action or lost or buried while serving at sea.~103,284 were wounded during the battle.~The Korean Memorial was approved by the U.S. Congress on October 28, 1986. ~President Ronald Reagan created a Korean War Veterans Memorial Advisory Board, which picked the location for the memorial in September of 1988.~The groundbreaking for the Memorial took place on June 14, 1992 and one of or former presidents, George H. W. Bush lead the event. ~On July 27, 1995, President Bill Clinton and Kim Young Sam, dedicated the memorial to the men and women who fought in the war. ~Each of the statues weigh about 1,000 pounds each!~Fourteen of the figures are from the U.S. Army, three are from the Marine Corps, one is a Navy Corpsman while the last one is an Air Force Forward Air Observer.

The 19 statues were made by Frank Gaylord of Barre, VT and cast by Tallix Foundries of Beacon, NY. The statues are exactly seven feet tall and show an ethnic cross section of America. The Mural Wall was created by Louis Nelson of New York, NY and manufactured by Cold Spring Granite Company, Cold Spring, MN
