Komodo Dragons lay their eggs in September. They hatch in April when the insects are plenty. The babies eat the insects. The Komodo Dragons take 9 years to mature.

Komodo Dragons fight for female Komodo Dragons. They will also fight for food and territory. They even fight to the death!

Komodo Dragons live in the Indonesian Islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gili Motang, and Padar. The Komodo Dragon averages 10 feet in length and can weigh up to 250 pounds. Komodo Dragons are endangered because of illegal hunting. They hunt them for their skin and feet. Human are also destroying their habitat.Komodo Dragons are protected by the law. Scientists estimate there are about 5000 left. They think only 350 are females.

Komodo Dragons are getting helped by the government. Scientists are microchipping them to monitor and track them. There are breeding programs all over the world.Komodo Dragons were first discovered in 1910. Scientists also believe that Komodo Dragons lived 3.8 million years ago.Komodo Dragons have a special diet. They eat birds, invertebrates, and mammals. Komodo Dragons occasionally attack humans. They like to live in the savana or a forest near shore.

Komodo Dragons have a very dangerous poison in their mouth. If you get bitten by one of these reptiles your chances of surviving are low.
