Where Do They Live:Koalas live in eastern and south eastern Australia. They are an endangered species. The number of animals in the species is declining they were hunted in the 1920s and 1930s. Their population is declining because the trees are being cut down so they are losing their habitat.

Habits:Koala's habits include eating eucalyptus leaves, sleeping during most of the day, and living with its mother until it is about one year old. On cool days, a koala is most likely to find the farthest spot away from the trunk of the eucalyptus tree so it can bask in the sun. On warm days, they are probably going to find the coolest spot of the tree to keep cool.

Interesting Facts:Some interesting facts about koalas are that they sleep 18 to 20 hours a day, they have a ling gut, and they eat 2 1/2 pounds of eucalyptus leaves every day. The male's bellows sound like the sound of a motorcycle revving mixed with the sound of a pig snorting.A baby koala, called a joey, can climb after it is born.

Physical Description:Koalas weigh usually about20 pounds. They are about23.5 to 33.5 inches long when they are adults. Koalasare about 0.015 to 0.035 ouncesat birth. The gestation period is about 34 days long. The femalekoala has a pouch that, unlikekangaroos, open towards theirhind legs.
