Koala Bears

Koala Bears only mate during certain times of the year. They usually give birth from October to May.

A larger, dominant male can force himself on a female, mounting her. They even might drag her from a tree.

Mating

Once born the baby lives in the mother's pouch for about 6 months and develops eyes, legs, and fur.

Newborn koalas are called "joeys" and they come out less than 1 inch long.

The mother does no work during birth. The baby climbs out on its own.

Koalas have short pregnancies, usually lasting 34-36 days. No nutrients are exchanged between mother and child.
