Louis became king in 1643 as a young boy. He was only 5 feet and 5 inches tall. He did not like cities and he liked to go through France's countryside. He liked to be called the sun king. He thought that he was like the sun and all power radiated from him. He died in 1715 while he was sleeping. The people of France were excited to hear about the death of Louis XIV. He left a good legacy as well as a bad legacy.
Accomplishments
Absolute Monarchs- Kings or queens who held all of the power within their states' boundries. Divine Right- the idea that God created the monarchy and that the monarch acted as God's representative on Earth
He weakened the power of the nobles and increased the power of the intendants.He made France the leading power over all of Europe.He also made France's military stronger than all of Europes. France had better arts, literature and statesmenship during the time of his rule.
Lasting Impact
He believed that he was a representive of God while he ruled and he held all of the power over his states and made all of the deciscions other than when he was young.
