Kim Il Sung

During 1950-1953, Kim lead North Korea into the Korean War, backed up by China and the Soviet Union. Under his rule, North Korea increased its military forces, embarked on a program of industrialization, and maintained close relations with both China and the Soviet Union. After his death he has become known as 'The External Leader'.

He has developed a political thought known as chuch'e, a concept of self-reliance.

Kim Il Sung, president of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. He is also the first member of the Presidium of the Politbureau of the Central Committee and the chairman of its Military Commission.
