Keith Haring

Born: May 4, 1958 in Reading PennsylvaniaFamily: Parents Joanne ' Allen Haring. 3 younger sisters Kay, Karen ' Kristen.Keith Haring became interested in art and drawing at a very eraly age. He studied commerical art from 1976-1978 at Piyysburgh's Ivy School of Professional Art but than lost interest in it. He moved to New York to study painting, junior/senior year he was behind on credicts because his professor couldn't give him credicts for loose art work he was doing with themes of social activism.

He first started paintingin subways and that is when the public started noticing him. "The Radiant Baby" became his symbol. His bold lines, vivid colors, actives figures carry strong messages of life and unity. Haring, created more than 50 public works between 1982-1989 in dozens of cities around the world. His "Crack is Wack" mural (1986) is visible from New York's FDR Drive.

I don't think art is propaganda; it should be something that liberates the soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further. It celebrates humanity instead of manipulating it.If commercialization is putting my art on a shirt so that a kid who can't afford a $30,000 painting can buy one, then I'm all for it.Art is for everybody
