Kayapo IndiansOf the Amazon

The environment influences many ways of life of the Kayapo tribe. The food they eat depends on what animals and plants there are in the area (Amazon), the clothes they wear depends on their climate, there shelter has to be functional for the weather, they have to learn how to grow food in the Amazon which is prone to torrential rain and flash floods, they have to learn to hunt the animals of the Amazon making sure they do not become the hunted, their clothes have to be functional for the climate.

Living ConditionsThe Kayapo people live in huts with thatched rooves made out of palm leaves. The huts are made big enough to fit an entire family. Instead of using mattresses, they ues hammocks which are more covinient as they keep them much cooler in the rainforest climate. For transport, the Kayapo people use canoes for long journeys along the Amazon. ClothingTraditionally, men wear sheaths to cover themselvels. One of the most unique features is their wodden lip disks. FoodFish is the main source of food for the Kayapo Indians, they also eat wild fruits and Brazil nuts. They hunt monkeys and turtles. Their traditional diets are changing due local villages.

The Changing EnvironmentThe Kayapo people are still very traditional. They still dress traditionally, hunt traditionally and have traditional practices. Though, the Amazon is not like it was one hundred years ago, the habitat is decreasing at frightining levels. There way of life is threatened by logging, illigal mineing and dam building. This is making life hard for the Kayapo community.
