Gaius Julius Caesar was born on the 12th of July 100 BCE. When he was 16 his father died and Julius Caesar became head of the family. He decided to join the army shortly after. He was an effective soldier, yet chose to become an orator, having a very successful career. Caesar was elected military tribune and after defeating the warring rival tribes in Spain he was awarded consulship. After a successful campaign in Gaul, Caesar decided to march on Rome. Rather than meet Caesar in battle Pompey fled the city and Caesar took control. On March 15th 44 BCE Caesar was assasinated by the senators. Among the assasins was Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus.

Lasting Impact
Many of Caesars military tactics are still used today. Created the Calendar we know today, and had a lasting impact upon education and politics.
