Juan Carlos I

Juan Carlos's younger brother Infante Alfonso. He died at the age of fourteen in a gun related accident in a family home in Estoril, Portugal.

Juan Carlos is also an avid hunter. In October of 2004, he angered environmental activists by killing nine bears one which was a pregnant female in central Romania.

Juan Carlos spent attendes a naval school at Marin, Pontevedra for a year. He also attended another at the Air Force school in San Javier in Murcia.

According to the police report while "Infante Alfonso was cleaning a revolver with his brother, a shot was fired hitting his forehead and killing him in a few minutes". The accident took place after the Infante's return from the Maundy Thursday religious service, during which he had received Holy Communion.

Juan Carlos was quick to institute reforms. This angered members of Falangist and conservative (monarchist) parties. Especially in the military which expected him to maintain the authoritarian state. He also appointed a prime minister. The Spanish prime minister was the effective end of the King's active involvement in Spanish politics.
