Mustard GasMustard Gas, also called Yperite, was first used by the German Army in September of 1917. It was one of the most lethal of all the poisonous gasses used during the war. It had no smell and took twelve hours to start taking effect. Yperite was so powerful that only small amounts had to be used to be effective. Once in the ground, mustard gas remained lethal for several weeks. from 1914-1918, 4,086 British troops were killed by mustard gas. Most people believe that the Germans would've been the first tp deploy the gas when in fact it was the french.
