Joseph John Thomson

In 1940 JJ Thomson designed the plum pudding model. He named his model this because the raisins in plum pudding were to represent the elctrons and the pudding to represent the surrouding area

A cathode ray tube (picture below) is a specialized vacuumtube in which images are produced when an electron beam strikes aphosphorescent surface.

JJ Thomson

JJ Thomson, a scientist who lived from 1856 to 1940, was very innovative and intelligent. When he was conducting his cathode-ray tube experiments, he made the discovery of electrons.

CONCLUSION - Thomson believed that electrons were mixed throughout an atom and that atoms were made out of smaller negatively charged particles (electrons).
