Childhood
Harriet Tubman was born around 1821. Harriet’s birth name was Arminta Tubman .Her nickname was Minty. Her mom wanted Arminta to learn to sew, cook, or weave .so she could be a house slave. At age six Arminta was taken away from her family.
Finding the North Star
Harriet didn’t work the same as she did before, soon she started hearing rumors that Mr.Brodas After, Harriet recovered from her illness she wasn’t the same. She suffered from severe headaches.,her owner, was planning to sell her .So Harriet planned to find the north star .
Escaping
Harriet fell in love with John Tubman, while they were planning to marry she began sewing a quilt. When Harriet had finished sewing the quilt it had a variety of colors : yellow, purple, white, and green. When she and John got married ,she brought the quilt with her. Harriet begged John to go north with her he said ‘’if you try to escape I’m telling your master . "
Being Free
Harriet made it to the north but realized that she didn’t have anyone to be free with, so she went back south to free other slaves . Harriet made her way south to free her husband, when she got there she found that he had a new wife .So Harriet saved her brothers and her cousins , she even saved people she didn’t know ! Harriet went to save her mom, dad , and her aunt . Harriet wanted to do it again but the dangers were becoming higher. Harriet re-routed the Underground Railroad because they created a Fugitive Law , this stated that escaped slaves could be captured in the north. April ,1858 Harriet was introduced to abolonist John Brown, John advocated violence. Harriet was the first woman to lead an armede expodition in the Civil War, she guided the Combahee River Raid ,it freed over 700 slaves in South Carolina.
Harriet's Remembrance
After Harriet married Nelson Davis they adopted a baby girl named Girtie. Harriet worked with Susan.B.Anthoney for womens rights. Harriet still continued to give inspite of her worrying about money. In 1913, Harriet got pneumonia. She knew that she wasn’t going to get better. One of her brothers and some good friends by her side she died. In Auburn, New York there is a plaque in memory of Harriet and Harriet will always be remembered for her courage, strength, and for her fierce devotion to the freedom of her people.
