Jonas Salk ( Mati Currie )

On March 26th 1952 Dr. Jonas Salk announced that he had succesfully created a vaccine that fights the Disease of Polio!

In 1947 Jonas Salk became the head of the Virus Reasearch Labratory at the University of Pittsburg.

In 1963 Salk Opened The Salk Instatute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California.

When Jonas Salk died in 1955 at the age of 80, he had been working really hard on a vaccine for AIDS for several years!

At first Jonas Salk went to college to beome a lawyer, but after working in the medical lab to earn money for college he decited to enter Medical School.

On April, 1955 the vaccine became avaliable to the world! He even gave in away for free, so that everyone could be cured.

What is Polio? Polio is a disase caused by a virus that can make children and adults very sick. It affectes the Spinal cord and sometimes even paralyzies. But in worse cases people people die from the disease.
