John Davison Rockefeller, born July 8, 1839, was an American oil industrialist, he was the founder of the Standard Oil Company, which led the oil industry. Late in life Rockefeller devoted himself to philanthropy. He died May 23, 1937.

Standard Oil was an American Oil, producing transporting, refining, and marketing company. Established in 1870 in Ohio, it was the largest oil refiner in the world It was one of the world's first and largest multinational corporations until it was broken up by the United States Supreme Court in 1911.
