Joe Wright

Joe Wright is an english director best known for Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, Hanna, and Anna Karenina. The time the movie takes place and the music says a lot about his style. Seeing all these movies myself, I came up with my own conclusion about Wright's style. Besides using the same actors in all his movies (Keira Knighley in 3 of the 4 below), they also have simular scenes. Besides Hanna, his movies usually take place in the past, in the Victorian age specifcally for Pride and Atonement. The characters talk formally and the ladies are expected to be a perfect and modest wife and it was looked at as disgraceful for a women to be too outgoing. All these films also have a very good music score. Intrumental music plays throughtout all these films at one point. Mostly the violin and the piano can be heard, but all his films have either won, or been nominated for the music. I conceived it as a ballet with words. "I really love the part of my job that is blocking - the movement of actors in space, and their physical relationships, and how you express that through the camera. There's a lot of craft involved in that, but there's also the potential for a lot of emotion." Joe Wright.
