BiographyJimmy Carter (James Earl Carter,Jr) was the 39th president. He grew up in the small town of Archery, Georgia. He received a B.A. degree from the United States Naval Academy. Jimmy Carter served two terms as the Georgia State Senator and one term as Governor of Georgia.Jimmy Carter was elected president November 2, 1976. He served as president from January 20, 1977 to January 20, 1981.His significant accomplishments during his presidency were the Panama Canal treaties, the Camp David Accords, the treaty of peace between Egypt and Isreal, the SALT II treaties with the Soviet Union, and and the establishment of U.S. diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.
