Jim Crow Laws

Beginning of Jim Crow Laws
Jim Crow laws, named for the minstrel show character, were passed in the late 1800s by the legislatures of the Southern states that discriminated against African Americans in the south.
Thanks to the brave obstinance of a few black persons, notably Rosa Parks, things began to change and Jim Crow Laws were challenged.
End of Jim Crow Laws
In theory, it was to create "separate but equal" treatment, but in practice Jim Crow Laws condemned black citizens to inferior treatment and facilities. Jim Crow laws in various states required the segregation of races in such common areas as restaurants and theaters.
