John F. Kennedy
JFK's years as president came to be known as Camelot. His wife began the saying after he died. Camelot is a time or place of happiness.
• JFK supported civil rights, but he didn't want to lose the support of southerners.• He sent troops to accompany the first black students to attend Alabama and Mississippi Universities.• sent civil rights legislation to congress
AssassinationIn 1963, Kennedy was in Texas to campaign. He was riding in a motorcade when Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK. He was believed to be acting alone, but to this day there is speculation that he had outside help despite the FBI study saying otherwise. Lee Harvey Oswald was shot while be transferred to a different jail by Jack Ruby, a Dallas nightclub owner.
"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
