The Life of A Scientist: Jane Goodall

After going to Tanzania and starting her observation, Jane Goodall discovered that Chimpanzees are omnivores. Before this discovery people had thoughty they were herbivores.

When Jane Goodall began her observations she also found that Chimpanzees make and use tools like humans. Louis Leakey replied to this discovery by saying, ''Now we must redefine tool, redefine Man, or accept chimpanzees as humans.'' This proved mankind wrong when they thought they were the only ones capaple of making and using tools.

Another discover of Jane Goodall's is that monkey's do have unfavorable temperments like humans. For example, two packs of Chimpanzees attacked till one of the packs died out.

Jane Goodall was very patient when it came to observing the Chimpanzees. It took awhile before they began to trust her. She was persistant as well. Even though getting to close scared the Chimpanzees off and she may have gotten frustrated she came back which helped provide crucial scientific research on the Chimps!~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Jane Goodall married Hugo van Lawick in 1964. They had one son, Hugo Eric Louis van Lawick. The unfortunately divorved, but Jane Goodall remarried to Derek Bryceson, but he unfortunately died of cancer five years afterwards.

Jane grew up in Bournemouth, United Kingdom. She worked at Oxford University typing up thier documents. The reason she had gone to Africa in the first place was to visit her friend, Clo Mange. She left her job at Oxford and became a waitress to save the money to go. This is how she met Dr. Louis Leakey!
