Lasting Impact

Jane Addams was born in 1860 in Illinois. Her mother died at two years old and was very close to her father, a Quaker farmer and influenctial citizen. Influenced by her religious and moral father, stepmother, authors and collegues, Jane fought for women's rights and peace. Jane was educated well at home as well as Rockford Seminary for Women. She conversed with her like-minded collegues to expand her education. She created Hull House to help those in need and to mend the "social class gap." Jane Addams believed in making her world a better place for everyone, especially those less fortunate.

She felt it was her duty to help those less fortunate and have resources for those who needed them. She was a woman who stood up for those who couldn't stand for themselves and made a lasting impact to those around her. Jane leaves a legacy that stands to this day.

-Started Hull House in 1889 for women, children, and immigrants-Started U.S. first kindergarden -Started U.S. first public playground-President of Women's International League for Peace and Freedom -Won Nobel Peace Prize in 1931-Started Labor Museum for Young People

Jane attributes her ethical living to her religious father, a Quaker. John Addams was a serious man who always told Jane, " you must always be honest with yourself, whatever happens."
