BIO:James Oglethorpe was an English man who was elected into Parliament in 1722 in which he served for over 3 decades. Oglethorpe also served as a British General. He later traveled and founded the town of Savannah which later became the colony of Georgia. He devised the "Oglethorpe Plan" which was made my him and his 21 trustees to make the settlement of Georgia debt free, no slaves, and a farming economy. Fun Facts:- Oglethrope was an active philanthropist.- Oglethorpe pushed to end slavery.-John and Mary Musgrove of the Creek Native American tribe worked with Oglethorpe in settling the land of Georgia. -Oglethorpe made great friends with Chief Tomichichi of the Yamacraw tribe.- Oglethrope named the state "Georgia" after King George II. (this was the last of the 13 original colonies)-Within one year, Oglethorpe had over 400 English settlers living in the colony of Georgia.
