Madison wasn’t known as a great president until recent years. He is now seen as one of the greatest presidents of all time. He fought for more rights and wanted a unified country. He was a man of politics and justice.

Born in 1751 in Orange County, Virginia. Attended Princeton for College(was called College of New Jersey). He studied history and government.

he was 5’4” and weighed 120 pounds. He barely escaped british capture in 1812 when they burned down the white house.

Fun Facts

Before he was president he helped frame the Virginia constitution, served in the Continental Congress and was a leader in the Virginia Assembly. Wrote a bunch of letters named as the Federalist Papers. When in congress he helped shaped the Bill of Rights and enact the first revenue legislation. Secretary of State for Thomas Jefferson. He was elected in 1808. In 1812, under madison’s leadership the US declared war on Britain yet again but wasn’t prepared which lead to the burning of the capitol building and the white house by british forces. He was mainly know as the “father of the constitution” because he played the biggest role in creating the document and the biggest supporter of it.
