James Abram Garfield

James Garfield was shot on July 2, 1881. He died on November 19, 1881 in a hospital bed in Elberon, a village on the Jersey Shore. Garfield's doctors were not able to remove the bullet from his pancreas. He died of blood poisoning and complications from the shooting.

James Abram Garfield was the 20th president of the United States. He served as president for only 200 days, not even a year. He was assassinated and died on November 19, 1881.

James Garfield was the last president to be raised in a logcabin. His father was dead by thetime he was two. He drove canal boat teams, and through this, gainedenough money for his education.

He belonged to the Republican political party. Before he was president, he was a member of the Ohio State Senate, the United States House of Representatives, and elected to the United States Senate. When he was president, his vice president was Chester A. Arthur, who also became the next president due to Garfield's death.

James Garfield was married to Lucretia Rudolph. They had 7 children.
