Jackie Robinson

Jackie Robinson was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers. He had a fantastic Batting Average. He was the first person in 26 years to steal all bases. He was number 42. He was the teams MVP. He was the first Black Man in the Baseball Hall Of Fame. He helped the Brooklyn Dodgers win the World Series against the New York Yankees in 1955. Jackie Robinson retired from baseball on January 5th, 1957. In 1972 his uniform was retired. He later died on October 24th, 1972 from heart complications and troubles with his diabetes .

Jackie Robinsons Early Life:

Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919. He was born in Cairo, Georgia to a family of sharecroppers. He was the youngest of 5 childrens in his family. He grew up in a racist environment, this meant he couldn't participate in sports or community activities. This lead to some trouble later in his life, including him joining a neighborhood gang that he was later persuaded to leave by his friend Carl Anderson. Later Jackie and his family moved to Pasadena after his father left the Family. Jack later enrolled in Pasadena Junior College and this is where his sports career began.

Early Career

Early in his life, Jackie Robinson joined the Military. He was a court marshall and he was pretty good at his job. Jack was boarding an u nsegregated military transport bus, and he had sat down in the first seat he had seen. He was later very unpolitely asked to get in the back of the bus because he was in a white mans seat. When he refused, he was taken to court and falsely charged with public intoxication and many other false charges. He was also aquitted in court by a group of 9 white men. Sound a little racist to you?
