What a lot of people don't know is that Jackie Robinson wasn't the first African American baseball player. There was one in the 1880's, but he was the first of his era.

Robinson won many awards, including a championship with the Dodgers and being the first African American player to be inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame.

According to this graphic, 4 of the top 10 MLB players in the 1950's were African American.
