Enrico Fermi Award

In 1939, Oppenheimer was selected as administer of a laboratory to carry out the Manhattan Project. On July 16, 1945 when the bomb successfully detonated over Japan, Oppenheimer argued against the development of the bomb. He resigned from his post that same year.

In 1963, after being suspended from secret nuclear research he was reinstated and given the award by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

During the creation of the atomic bomb. Oppenheimer worked along side Enrico Fermi. They were both developers of the bomb.
