It's A Wonderful Life!

Disney World

The only camping that I did growing up involved a cottage with running hot and cold water. When my husband and I decided to give camping a try, he was a seasoned camper and I was not, we bought a tent and camped in the backyard. After one night I kindly informed him that I would not be sleeping on the ground ever again. As the years went by, we toyed with the idea of buying a camper, which I whole heartedly supported since I would not be sleeping on the ground, but we could never agree on size so we never ended up buying one. One day, while coming home from the grocery store, we saw a pop-up camper for sale on the side of the road. To make a long story short, we bought it for $450, gutted it and my husband re-built it to serve our needs. We took it on several trips around New York State and had so much fun. We are looking forward to a camping trip to Acadia National Park in Mount Desert, Maine, this coming summer. I also purchased a high quality air mattress so that I won’t have to sleep on the ground!

Our first trip to Disney with all four of us! Even though the boys are older and not into Mickey Mouse, they had a great time and I had the best time planning the whole trip. My favorite part of the trip was seeing my kids relax and enjoy what it means to be “on vacation”. Not once did they ask for television or an iPod.

Skiing is my most favorite thing to do in the winter. I love snow and cold weather! Crazy, I know, but very true. I have been skiing for over 26 years and have taught both of my sons to ski so that we could have an activity that we enjoyed together as a family. I have skied Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York. My favorite place to ski is a little family hill 10 minutes from my parent’s house. I love that I can go up and down the hill 30 times and not have to wait in a lift line and I love that my kids can safely go off skiing or boarding on their own with friends and I don’t have to worry about them getting lost because all the runs come back down to one chair lift.

My family comes first, no matter what. My husband is truly my best friend and has been for the past 19 years. He has given up a lot in the past 5 years so that I could go back to school and he has never once complained and on more than one occasion has stayed up doing school projects with me. He is my hero. My boys are the center of my world and I am so thankful that they have put up with me having to do homework on fieldtrips and at sporting events. All three of my boys inspire me to be a better person and to try to make the world a better place for them.

Two weeks before Christmas in December 2013, we had to put our 14 year old Cocker Spaniel to sleep. This was very sad because my husband bought me the dog when our oldest son was 4 months old, so the dog and my son grew-up together. After the passing of our dog, it felt like everywhere we went we saw puppies, so my husband and I decided to adopt a dog from a shelter out in Arkansas. Cooper, our new puppy drove on a bus from Arkansas to Connecticut where my sons and I picked him up and drove him home to Martha’s Vineyard. Cooper is a lot of fun, and he thinks that he is a cat, which makes me laugh when he jumps and then crashes because he is not coordinated. I am a dog person and I feel that a home without a dog is an empty place, even if there are kids in the home.
