SIMILARITIES-In both the Hatfield McCoy feud and the Interlopers, the entire family was involved.- Both feuds have been carried on from generation to generation.-The rival families in the interlopers as well as the Hatfield & the McCoys both had court cases/trials that attempted to end the feud but failed. -Both of the feuds had leaders. HMF:(Devil Anse & Old Ranel) The Interlopers:(Georg & Ulrich)
DIFFERENCES- In the Hatfield McCoy Feud (HMF) it took time for the feud to end but it eventually died down. In the Interlopers being that the peace died with Georg & Ulrich is it fair to say that the feud really did end between their families?- The HMF started alledgely because of a hog. However, the feud in the "Interlopers" started over land.- Feud ended between two leaders(Georg & Ulrich) but HMF ended between all members of the families.-There were more deaths caused by the HMF as opposed to the Interlopers.
THE START OF THE FEUDThe start of this altercation was absolutely ridiculous. You would not believe that this rivalry began all because of a hog. You would think that this feud started because of something with more value. Sydney J. Harris once said, "If a small thing has the power to make you angry, does that not indicate something about your size?" This quote relates directly to both sides of the disputers who began a feud over a small insignificant thing, a hog. It is also said that the murder of Asa Harmon McCoy was another reason why the feud began.
